A story about an artist eager for freedom and full of devotion, The Sea and the Flying Fish is a tale that reveals the inherent power of art as well as love. Ehsan is a deaf and defiant young boy living in a Juvenile Detention Center. Innocent but not naive, he has a special talent: painting. In fact, it is the only method he has for communication. The correctional officers often assume that the paintings Ehsan renders do not have any special meaning, but they gradually begin to acknowledge his talent and allow him to paint on the center’s walls. But that’s not enough for Ehsan. After learning that his father has sold his sister to pay off a debt, he dreams of escaping from the center to save her. Ironically, however, Ehsan’s source of creativity derives from the agony he feels over the loss of his sister. His frustration makes him dream, the images from which he then turns into his magnificent murals.
