Vast lands with nothing except for mountains, trees and grass, and wind and water? this is where an elderly father lives with his two aging daughters. In their monotonous daily lives, the only sources of amusement are anold TV with poor reception and the visiting salesman who drops in once in a while. The younger sister starts to fall for the salesman, who provides a glimmer of excitement in her otherwise boring life, but the older sister, paralyzed in an accident, tries to control her by telling her about the husband who abandoned her because of her handicap. The younger sister’s heart is torn between the salesman?a potential way into a new world?and her sister, who nonetheless plays an important role in her repetitive life. This idyllic picture shows existence with no change, no excitement and no energy within conventional Iranian society, and it reminds us of a beautiful picture album. The movie does not use standard narrative to cross the emotional threshold, but captivates the audience simply through its imagery. (Jay SOHN)
