Program Note
Hermes Paralluelo’s outstanding debut film tells the story of Ricardito, Bedo, and Pata, ‘carreros’ who pick up garbage boxes and bottles for a living in Villa Urquiza outside the city of Cordoba. They do the work by using a horse-drawn carriage. The lives of the teenagers, as friends and workmates, are depicted in a very realistic style. [Yatasto] is an amzing debut film. This is an Argentine indie film that has won several prizes at BAFICI. The work maintains a balance between its story and form. The use of fixed shots and the disciplined style also deserve attention. Furthermore, as in the case of this year’s many other Argentine films, this one is also located on the borderline between documentary and feature. The way in which the film shows the boy who is excited about finally going on a trip with his father, who has never played the role of a father proves this new director’s fine sense and enormous potential.
