Terrence Malick presents a long awaited new film after five years. A successful architect Jack(Sean Penn) wakes up from a dream about the past and his little brother who died when he was nineteen. He talks with his father for the first time in years, and begins to reflecton his childhood in the Midwest in the 1950s. Jack has painful memories of his father, but soon discovers that even love and hate change their shades through the passage of time. Malick’s film searches for the origins of life and its meaning in meditation of intrinsic existence. The film features a great ensemble cast, including Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain playing Jack’s parents. The relationship between father and son allows much room for metaphors of life as their endless conflict and reconciliation span from innocent childhood to compromising adulthood.
