The film begins with two people obsessed with death meeting one another: Terminally ill Annabel (Mia Wasikowska) meets a Enoch (Henry Hopper), who enjoys attending funerals. Enoch offers her a chance to experience life and death and soon they find themselves caught up in romance. The ghost of a Japanese pilot from WW II appears in front of the couple and the pilot (Kase Ryo) helps them realize that the end of life isn’t death but living itself. They are near death yet their youth is filled with living energy of love and passion. Gus Van Sant introduces an unusual love story written by Jason Lew who is also the writer of original play. The film leaves us expectant of the director’s new move for the next film. (LEE Sang-yong)
