After ten years of a loveless marriage, Karen decides to leave her rich husband. She gets a room in Bogota and tries to find work, but without any skills at her age it is quite impossible. Now Karen must accept this bitter reality, or give up her freedom and return to her old life. This Columbian movie about a woman finding her true self was introduced in the Berlin Forum. The story of a woman who must overcome the prejudice and hypocrisy of not only strangers but also her own family in the macho society of Central America is one that any woman can relate to. It is heart wrenching to see her efforts and determination to protect herself from even the new man who comes to her life after she finally leaves her husband.
