Logo II. Fifteen years after Bruce McDonald’s cult smash [Hard Core Logo], the director introduces us to rock star Care Failure, who claims to channel the spirit of Joe Dick, deceased star of the first film. Bruce tries desperately to save the young rock star from the same tragic fate as Joe. Mingled with elements of the documentary, film play, music, comedy, and experimental image, this work once again shows its scintillating talent in continuation of its predecessor. Sometimes with a film-within-the film, sometimes with a sloppy stage some sticky rock music is played on, [Hard Core Logo II] becomes an unpredictable cinematic collage. The paths through which this film searches for Joe’s soul are perhaps a metaphor of our looking for the spirit of gaiety lost in today’s cinema(or art). Anyhow, the energetic way the work develops itself is good enough to offer feelings of artistic refreshment. (LEE Sang-yong)

Canadian cult favorite Bruce McDonald became infamous for commenting that he’d buy “a big chunk of hash” with the money he won at the Toronto International Film Festival for his debut feature [Roadkill]. McDonald’s other projects include [Highway 61], [Dance Me Outside], [Picture Claire], [The Tracey Fragments], and the feature documentary [Music from the Big House].
