Program Note
Plagued by his own demons, Walter, once a successful toy executive and happy family man, has hit rock bottom and now suffers from depression. No matter what he tries, he can’t seem to get himself back on track. But in his darkest hour, he finds a rather unusual savior: a beaver hand-puppet that takes over Walter’s life in an attempt to change things for better. Two-time Academy Award winner Jodie Foster directs and co-stars with two-time Academy Award winner Mel Gibson in [The Beaver], an emotional story about a man on a journey to re-discover his family and re-start his life. It has been sixteen years since Foster directed her latest film, [Home For the Holiday]. Still, she has not lost her touch. With her delicate and subtle direction and Mel Gibson’s fine performances, [The Beaver] is definitely worthy of notice.
