Program Note
Baikonur is a name of an area of Kazakhstan. The former Soviet built the world’s first space ship launching site there and it is still the largest running launching site. Villagers make their living out of collecting and selling metal and parts that have fallen from launching space ships. A boy called Gagarin dreams of far off space, hacking into radio waves. His neighbors benefit from the information he offers by getting to the site to collect parts faster than others. However, Gagarin has little interest in money because space is the only thing that interests and keeps him. One day, an astronaut named Julie crashes near the village and Gagarin brings her home and takes care of her. Gagarin’s fantasy and aspirations grow towards amnesiac Julie, and he ends up deluding himself with the idea of marrying her. So begins a beautiful lie... (LEE Sang-yong)
