Program Note
The story of a master of the ordinary turning into an extraordinary Master of martial arts combines with a drama of betrayal and revenge. A farmhouse cook named Tu, a fat and humble rabbit and pancake cook, finds a dying Kung Fu master, betrayed by one of his disciples, literallyon his last breaths. At the request of the master, Tu sets out on a journey that will change his life completely. [Legend of a Rabbit] cleaves closely to the Kung Fu genre while taking full advantage of animation′s limitless creative potential. The animal characters’ action movements are remarkably detailed and each character has a distinct and charming personality. This first Chinese 3D animated film is a harbinger for a bright future for the Chinese industry: its action sequences are directed in a way that creates maximum stereoscopic effect through camera movement and space configuration. Despite the similarities shared with Kung Fu Panda the film maintains its originality. [Legend of a Rabbit] shows Chinese animation’s potential to reach out to global audiences. (KANG Sowon)
