Program Note
[Kausar] is a film about the importance of motherhood. A 15 year old girl, Ainur, who has accidentally become pregnant, is in a maternity ward. Isolated from her parents, she sinks into despair, but as she associates with other mothers she starts to have a change of heart. She soon realises that she′s not the only one with issues. She discovers a number of difficulties and situations, including an older mother and a mother dealing with her 13th pregnancy. As time goes on, she sees women who have had miscarriages or who are sterile and unable to have a baby, despite desperately wanting one. Ainur starts being positive about the pregnancy, thinking that it might be a blessing after all and hoping to be a good mother. Throughout this illuminating experience, this 15 year old girl as a woman chooses the chance to become a mother. Director Gulsina Mirgaliyeva shows how strong women can be when they feel the maternal instinct and how lucky women are to have a womb. (KIM Ji-seok)
