This is a tragic drama about a man whose family was destroyed because of a car accident and the married couple who caused the accident. The parallel narratives of the two families alternate and gradually merge in a bittersweet confrontation and resolution. Ironically, it is a shared sense of guilt that ties the victim and the perpetrators together. The man who had been in the throngs of passion with his mistress, a curator, at the time of the accident is guilt-ridden as if his affair had caused the accident. The blame and pain that he expresses mostly toward his lover is impulsive and violent. Meanwhile, the couple’s daily life seems serene on the surface but inner anxiety slowly pervades throughout their lives individually and eventually begins to affect their lives together as a couple. The film lays out a panoramic view of the diverse faces of guilt. Sometimes extremely realistic and sometimes minimalistic, the director’s style resembles Kim Ki-duk’s fugues into half-abstraction, moving freely between presentation·exhibition and omission·restraint.
