Program Note
A collection of four episodes depicting love, birth, death, and the dialectic enlightenment. Each episode revolves around certain central characters. Violent Aleks participates in an experiment facing civil war in former Yugoslavia. Sarah tries to escape loneliness by investigating a murder. Bastian has to deal with his father’s decision to die, and Anna dances with a foreign man. The four episodes are independent, yet draw a loose line of connection. We can see this connection, not in a direct entanglement between the characters, but in the grazing type of relationships, different, but somehow connected. Each episode shows its own color ? some portray an abstract idea typical of an independent film, and others show off a sophistication hard to see in an independent film. The black and white appearance exudes a feeling of a monotonic color film, and the encounter with the yet-unknown actors is quite pleasant. (JEON Chanil)
