A butcher Liang married a young wife Ciao by paying her family’s debt. However, Ciao refuses to have sex with him with an excuse of preparing the college entrance exam. As his wife fails the exam, Liang expects to have a normal family life but Ciao runs away to the city. Liang determines to take her back and goes to the city. Wangliang’s Ideal is a story about dreadful obsession. As much as Liang’s tenacity of taking back his wife, Ciao’s refusal is viciously determined. Unpredictably falling into tragic end, the battle between the two becomes a tragic social critique to the Chinese new society classified with the academic and economic status. For that reason, even though the story follows Liang’s journey of finding his wife, it portrays more deeply with the city life of Ciao who clashes with the social contradiction.
