This film is the story of a middle-aged woman who realizes the meaning of love through a meeting with the person that her son and his colleague loved, following the tragic news of her son’s death. Having lived by herself after her husband passed away, Arati heads for Kolkata when she gets the news that her son, working in the city after getting a new job recently, died in an automobile accident. With the help of Sahana, her son’s colleague, she arrives at her son’s home and gradually finds out things about his life. Then she learns about his relationship with his supervisor, Arnobda. As an ordinary middle-aged woman, Arati finds it hard to understand their relationship. However, meeting Arnobda and Sahana helps her to slowly open up and break down her prejudices. This is a long journey of the mind for Arati. Director Sanjoy Nag considers Arati’s process of learning to understand Arnobda and gay culture important. Their conversation begins as dialog between strangers and then develops into that of a family. Consequently, Arati realizes that the love that her son and Arnobda had shared was true, and that it transcended the realm of sexual identity. (KIM Ji-seok)
