Program Note
This film is a modern version of the story of Prometheus. Yet he is not punished by God but by the greedy man. Svet-ake, meaning a man of light, is being loved by people in the village because as an electric technician, he always helps his neighbors when they suffer from electricity shortage or unstable electricity.
By the way, he has two wishes. One is having a son and the other is making a wind power generator. His desire to have a son is so desperate that he gets electric shock following the absurd advice of his friend, Mansur. One day, he decides to work together with a corrupted capitalist, Bekzat, but after finding out his substance, he wants to quit the relationship. Then, Bekzat takes a brutal revenge on him.
While fire of Prometheus is a metaphor of civilization, electricity of Svet-ake is a way of survival in this chaotic society, and an unconditional love. Svet-ake, being revenged by Bekzat, is a symbol of the modern society controlled by human greedy. (KIM Ji-seok)
