Program Note
Set during Argentina′s 2001 political and economic crisis, an idyllic life goes on as usual in a gated community of luxurious villas. Families seem to continue a picture perfect life separated from reality but on the inside, each family has their own demons with time passing, and those problems begin to float on the surface. A film adaptation of the best-selling thriller, it’s an elegant and clean cut portrayal of a bourgeois families’ lavishing lifestyle. It is their perfect image that makes the cracks more prominent when they begin to emerge. The film maintains tension and manages to keep the audience guessing right to the end. The last scene of the film delivers a scathing criticism for Argentina and the indifferent bourgeois class. (RHEE Soue-won)
