Program Note
A film about the love, desire, and despair of people who live in the magnificent and bustling city of Beijing. Li Jia, is a know-it-all that pursues only love, and a girl who roams the streets in rebellion against her father, Zhi Xiong, who enjoys a comfortable middle class life but has a frustrating married life, and Xiao Yun, his former girlfriend turned mistress, Wang Yao, who has lost a daughter in an automobile accident, and the woman who tries to help him but ends up getting hurt. The stories interwoven between these people unravel one by one through an accident at an intersection, resulting in the laying out the lives of the people in the city. They all live unstable lives and wish to make a fresh start. Unfortunately, they end up right back where they started. Then, they look happy again. Have they found true happiness? What was it that they wanted so desperately to get away from? Director Zhang Yang talks about the lives of city people who cannot overcome their limitations without ever holding a moral compass to what is indeed right.

Zhang Yang grew up in Beijing and studied at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou. He went on to the directing department at the Central Academy of Drama and was later appointed as the director of Beijing Film Studio.
