Program Note
Truck driver Georgy travels the long distance between the dark and icy Russian roads, and makes a trip into a world that does not allow much tolerance ? a world of strange travelers, beast-like policemen, and a young prostitute. Documentary director Sergei Loznitsa uses the anecdotes he collected while filming a documentary in Eastern Europe as the backdrop in this nightmarish road movie about the dark side of Russia. [My Joy] is a bitter tale of current Russian life and a criticism of a country full of violence and corruption. (Jay JEON)
