Program Note
This ′growing up′ film is about 6 year-old boy, Yusuf, trying to find his father. The father is a beekeeper and manages to feed his family and the mother is wise, always worrying about the future of her son. One day, as the father doesn’t return home from the forest, Yusuf continues to find his father. What happens to him? The father is dead due to a strange incident, but that doesn’t disturb the flow of the film at all. The film reveals the father’s death like a part of nature and just follows the lives of the family centering on the boy very quietly. What makes this film remarkable is absence. However, that absence is the biggest virtue of this film. In other words, this is a typical film having a trivial narrative and style. This film represents the new Turkish auteur film. (JEON Chanil)
