The power in a small rural Nepalese village with a strong maternal tradition revolves around Chinmaya. The entire village is busy preparing for wedding of her son when the groom’s ex-lover, Suntali, shows up with a mean-looking man. Chinmaya is annoyed that the village men are intrigued by the beautiful Suntali, who has returned to take revenge on Chinmaya for banishing her from the village in the past. Chinmaya suspects Suntali’s vengeful intentions, which the younger woman slowly puts into practice, and devises a scheme to get rid of her. This Bollywood-style film, complete with extravagant costumes and lively group song and dance, is an interesting hybrid debut feature for the filmmaker that mixes style in kitschy touches. The women’s duel as well as the manner in which the film spreads out the supporting characters’ stories, from tailor to policeman and thief, is quite outstanding. Furthermore, the high wire action scenes, excessive romantic fantasy, and direct reference to borrowed texts are some of the unusual Hollywood/Bollywood genre cinema footnotes the filmmaker incorporates.
