Program Note
On a scorching summer day in Rome that tops 45 degrees Celsius, a riot erupts among the merchants after the announcement that the eastern Rome market place they work in will close down. People turn to the members of the Democratic Party, who begin a petition to request the resignation of Silvio Berlusconi, and all the chaos that follows is caught on tape by a reporter. Beginning with a high-impact dance set to electronic music, this film is a black comedy that casts a critical eye on the Berlusconi era. The chaos in the movie is well accentuated through the dynamic visuals created by a combination of diverse camera angles as well as an interesting way of including a continual stream of electronic music in the background. Director Diego Bianchi creates a great Italian-style political satire using just the right balance of space, music, and dialogue. (RHEE Soue-won)
