There have been ambitious efforts to see Bangalore, India, reborn as an international metropolis. Politicians and businessmen ignore the law and move forward with plans to build mega shopping malls and subway systems without negotiating with the residents. The film depicts the violence that destroys a city’s history and banishes residents and nature to pursue urban glamour. In order to expose the violence in this development, the film takes us back to when it all began in 2008. We see new buildings rising on one side, while on the other a house passed down through generations is split in half and destroyed, hundreds of trees are uprooted and a university campus is ruined. When we return to 2013, the cutting edge appearance of the city looks different. The purpose of this journey back in time is not to return the city to 2008. Rather, it is to bring awareness to the violence hidden behind the glamour, and to remember the resistance of citizens and activists. Their fight will not be in vain as long as their memory remains.
