Program Note
In Iran living as a female stage actress doesn’t seem to be easy, at least, this film says so. To be an artist to express herself, she has to withstand the underground life like many other youths in Iran. One day, she meets a man, now an Australian citizen and is offered a way out of a new life. Can she live another life out of this repressive situation? This film undermines the stereotypes of Iranian films like dealing with only innocent children and obedient women. The most appealing power of this film comes from the main character, Marzieh, so that this film becomes one of Marzieh, by Marzieh, and for Marzieh. This film solely focuses on the main character and doesn’t even employ any romance line at all. Needless to say, the director of this film is a woman, but confining this film as a feminist text might be a mistake.
