Program Note
Having separated parents, Sia is addicted to drugs. Sia comes home after treatment and rehabilitation, but she has already lost trust from Maria, her mother. Maris receives an offer to sing a chanson. When Maria went to the audition with Sia, Sia meets an African photographer and an African traditional ‘Zulu’ singer.
The film features the history of a family which is cured through music. Through three characters, Sia, who sings and plays guitar; Maria, who kept the violin of her father’s; and the Zulu singer, who connects those two, the film shows the co-existence of various forms of music and reconciliation through music. The director filmed his personal story and features his daughter and wife who are actual singers themselves to accurately portray one section of South African middle class life.
