Program Note
Living in Canada, Audrey visits her parent’s house when she comes to her homeland, France. Audrey tries to be likened by her strict and picky mother, but it isn’t easy to resolve tension and conflicts between them. Finding an old diary from in her grandmother’s kitchen, she steps into the lives of her grandmother and her mother, which she knew little about. The film deals with things that every mother and daughter experience, yet the film adds more depth into self-examination by expressing the perspective of the daughter and the perspective of the mother in three generations. The film expresses that the life Audrey’s mother has lived and the life Audrey will have won’t be so different from the past of her grandmother. Excellent performance of Catherine Deneuve as a daughter and a mother at the same time is something to be noted.
