Program Note
Prevailing middle-class violence is the subject of this film, told in three timelines, about a cop, a victim, and a perpetrator. In the present, the cop at the scene is crushed beneath the weight of responsibility; in the future, the victim’s wife is haunted by the ghosts of the shooting, both in the empty home and in her mind; and in the past the man who unleashed the horror struggles with the poor choices he makes and waits for the consequences. Class and circumstance ? inextricably linked to each other ? affect the existence that each character lives, but the impact of the crime is no less devastating for it. Eduardo Valente asks not only why a robbery and shooting happened, but also how the event informs the lives of everyone involved ? before and after it.
