Program Note
“They’re a quixotic pair, a breed of survivors eager to live: two eccentric, crepuscular Europeans passing through a little South American town where time has stood still. Two traveling companions who reveal their values and their fears at a past that has been lost forever, and who depend on each other in a big and lonely world.” ? Alvaro Brechner Hidden beneath the surface of Alvaro Brechner’s debut is actually a neo-western, free of black hated cowboys but replete with themes of redemption, mortality and living in the shadow of one’s own myth. In a classic story of two aging friends carrying out one last job before hanging it up for good, reality ? in the form of existential crises, failing health and romantic uncertainty ? clashes with dreams for Jacob and Orsini. [Bad Day to go Fishing] is simultaneously bittersweet and oddly hopeful, delicately balancing on the thin line between absurdity and pathos.
