Program Note
Bruno and Marie live in Morocco with their children. Bruno called the youngest child, Louis, and tells him that he is going to commit suicide soon but asks him to keep it a secret. Louis stutters, and Marie is getting tired of her husband whose mental status is deteriorating. Louis cannot get himself from the thought that he must save his father.
Under the exotic setting of Morocco, the film lays the love of a son toward his father. The film can be interpreted in a number of ways. Toward the last scene, a series of narration between father and the son is an example of excellent direction; the last word of the son toward his father echoes on the hearts of the audiences for a while. Known for his role from [Rosetta] and [The Son] by Dardenne Brothers, Olivier Gourmet played the father. This great work was awarded the Grand Prix at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival 2009.
