Program Note
Daniel works as a handyman in a newly rising building, and he sleeps there. Due to his free but rebellious personality, few people pay visit to him except an unknown mentally challenged man who occasionally breaks into the building. He is worried about his not-so-smooth relationship with his girlfriend, Sonia, but they try to dig out their sincerity buried underneath their heart. The film deals with a critical mind about relationship, love, and freedom. From the first scene, the film features characters and settings that blow all social restrictions and conventions to set a serious atmosphere, and the film maintains the ‘agony’ of the characters till the end. The main character, acted by popular French actor, Romain Duris, is a free yet suffering soul who lives in the face of danger and anxiety. This film by Patrice Chereau, a director, screenwriter, and theatric director himself, premiered in competition at the Venice film festival.
