Program Note
Working part-time at a mart, Soo-young sometimes steals inventory at the store and sells them. Her objective is to get a full-time job, and for that reason, she saves up to get plastic surgery. Meanwhile, her boyfriend, who was living with her, takes her money and disappears. While still shocked by the betrayal, she meets a young man who works at a private loan company.
Director Ryu Hyung-ki portrays the young generation in their mid-to-late 20s, the so-called \880,000 generation of Korea (similar to ‘€1,000 generation’ of Europe) with candor. He also shows the reality of youth that submits to the desire of the era of devouring superstore, greedy private loan business, and neoliberalism which leaves no choice for her but to take plastic surgery. Soo-young must make a choice, not to fall and not to collapse. That is the true picture of the youth who cannot but betray and the attitude of the youth that gives up to live on. (LEE Sang-yong)
