Program Note
Each soldier tries to desert with his own reason. Among fugitives, conflicts arise, and one of the runaway soldiers is caught. Two of them call for help and try to escape. The process of desertion is a continuation of ceaseless fights and a repetition of betrayals. One of the best gay film directors, Lee Song Heeil, although he took out an amount of queer film characteristics in this film, leads the screen with a rhythm of emotion of the characters. Following the frame of genre films, he leads the screen with nervous temperament reactions from the characters. This unique application creates a style that draws from his own pessimistic view of the world. Three deserters are unfortunate beings connoted with tragic nature. (LEE Sang-yong)
