Program Note
E-nam, Sam-nam, and Cho-rong live with their father in a slum that is soon to be demolished. The oldest son Il-nam is paid off by the gang that wants to develop the area and tries to convince his father to leave, but his father looks at him suspiciously. Misunderstanding causes tension in the village and the people all become suspicious of one another.
Director Park Chur-woong makes a convincing drama depicting a family’s dire straits and reality. The poor family becomes the people living in a forgotten place deep in the city, and at the same time represents the ‘commoners’ who are disappearing in face of harsh reality. As the audience sees them, they start to think about the other side of the city. (LEE Sang-yong)
