Program Note
Born between a Taiwanese mother and French Father, Yang-yang never once had the chance to see her father. Though she is a native Taiwanese who never once experienced French culture, her close resemblance to her father makes her as an alien in her own country. Glimpses of sadness seeping from behind her beautiful face and bright smile is the result of being lonely living an alienated life. When her mother gets remarried and she gains a new family, Yang-yang tries to seek stability, but her obsession with having relationships ruins her life with her new family. [Yang Yang] shows the growing pains of a girl who has her own pains and troubles. At the same time, it painfully shows a side of Taiwan’s society that turned into a multi-cultural society through the
lonely teenager’s life. Sandrine Pinna, who won the Best Actress Award at the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival for [Miao Miao] which was introduced through the 13th Pusan International Film Festival, gives another dazzling performance. (Jay SON)
