Program Note
Based on Yoshida Shuichi’s Parade, this film depicts the ‘breaking off of human relationships.’ Ryoshuke, Naoki, Kotomi and Mirai are four young friends who live together in a two-bedroom apartment. Their lives are ordinary, and not much different from that of their close friends. Then one day, Satoru (18), who is a male prostitute, comes between them. The film develops with the ordinary, but intimate conversation the four roommates share. The audience may wonder whether romantic relationships will sprout between them, but that has nothing to do with the message of the film. The main characters know each other very well through the countless conversations they have had. The problem is that even still, they don’t really show themselves. Thus, when the last scene reveals what everyone already knew about Naoki’s, the audience may feel the need to watch the film over again; for it will be a more horrifying experience than the fear of the crime that occurs in the story.
