Program Note
Tuk Chi, an average man in his 20s lives with his mother meets a teenager, Ing, who leads a boring life. They meet while ‘chatting’ over the Internet. Eventually, they meet and have sex at motels in order to escape their miserable lives, but they soon get caught by Ing’s parents. When Ing’s parents threaten to sue Tuk Chi with statutory rape, his mother is forced to suffer the shame of going to her ex-husband to ask for money. When things turn for the worse, Tuk Chi gets more and more scared and falls into unbridled violence. Director Ho Yuhang rose to fame internationally through films like his feature debut [Min], [Sanctuary] the 2004 Netpac Award at Pusan International Film Festival, and [Rain Dogs] which won the Best Director Award at Nantes Film Festival. In [At the End of Daybreak] he captures the young people’s lives with beautiful visuals and evokes conversation with Malaysia today.
