Program Note
With the past of losing his wife in an accident, Brain is a hired killer who sets up accidents to kill his victims. While conducting a well-crafted mission, his team member is accidentally killed, and he comes to believe that someone set up an accident to terminate him. His suspicion becomes obsessive and he turns more paranoid. Competing at this year’s Venice Film Festival, this film is two distinctive spectacles. One is the accidents that Brain and his team conduct; another is the chasing process of Brain to the accident happened to him. The process of setting up an accident is so elaborate and tense enough to paralyze our ethical judgment. Handling the uneasy task to keep the tense high during the chasing process, Soi Cheang proves himself as an emerging director representing Hong Kong cinema. (CHO Young-jung)

Soi CHEANG
From Hong Kong, Soi Cheang is best known for his brutal storytelling that often exposes the weakness of the human psyche. A veteran filmmaker who started as Johnnie To’s assistant director in the early 90s, his directorial debut [Diamond Hill] cemented his signature style of twisted visuals and cynical characters. He earned his first international repute for [Dog Bite Dog] (2006).
