Brothers Gregor and Pietschi have nothing in common. One day, Pietschi disappears without trace during a sailing trip. As Gregor, a doctor, traces his brother’s path, he slowly drifts from his own daily life. Hiding his identity, he comes to sleep with his brother’s girlfriend. The film begins with the profile of a man driving. With its unchronological development and moderate dialogue, the film is like a puzzle that the audience must put together. There are many scenes in which Gregor feels lost and agonizes over his search for his brother. By following his slow process of becoming his brother, the film takes a stylistic approach to the topic of loss of family. It was the opening film of the Berlin Film Festival’s Perspektive Deutsches Kino section, which showcases films from up-and-coming German filmmakers. (RHEE Soue-won)
