Program Note

Female superheroes are rare even among the western superheroes, and Darna is definitely the one and only female superhero in Asia. Even though the character is originated from a Filipino comics, some may point out that Darna is very similar to Western superheroes, particularly Wonder Woman. Alike other Philippine superhero series, Darna has a detailed fantasy story of a girl transforming into a grown up woman. (Mina OAK)

Lore Reyes

Producer, actor and writer Lore Reyes has co-directed many films with Peque Gallaga. His TV series Mulawin (2004) was very popular and gained more than 35% of the audience share. He also directed another series titled Sugo in 2005. His filmography includes Darna: The Return (1994), and Unfaithful Wife 2 (1999) .

Peque Gallaga

Peque Gallaga is a multi award-winning Filipino filmmaker. After winning a scriptwriting contest sponsored by the Experimental Cinema of the Philippines, he directed Oro, Plata, Mata (1983), which received awards from the International Film Festival of Flanders- Ghent and the Manila International Film Festival. He won the Best Director Award at the FAMAS Awards with Unfaithful Wife (1987) and at the Manila International Film Festival with Magic Temple (1996). Other credits include Aswang (1999), Pinoy/Blonde (2005) and Puso 3 (2006). He currently lives in Bacolod City.
