Rene is an attempt to portray some other form of life and to contrast our fast-paced era with the time-free life that exists in prison. It is an attempt to make a decent film that hopefully will confirm the uniqueness and viability of long-time-horizon documentaries. -Helena Trestikova Reminiscent of Michael Apted’s Up in its long-term perspective, Rene tracks one man-a life-long petty criminal-for two decades against shifting Czech society. The film incorporates archival material that provides a context for the troubled man, who is always allowed to speak for himself.
