Program Note
ABC Short Films produced by Asahi Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), consists of 5 short films about ‘children’ made by prestigious filmmakers. The films deal with social issues, pre-pubescent school life, and familial obligations in a way that explores the various roles that ‘children’ can have.
Director

Junji SAKAMOTO
Born in Sakai City, Osaka in 1958, he worked on the films of Ishii Sogo and Kawashima Hideo while at Yokohama National University. In 1989, he made his debut film Knock Out which receiver high acclaim. Subsequently, his films include Tekken(1990), Checkmate(1991), and Boxer Joe(1994).

Yoichi SAI
Born in Nagano in 1949, Yoichi SAI was the assistant director under OSHIMA Nagisa in The Empire of the Senses (1976). With his successful debut of Mosquito on the 10th Floor (1983), he became one of the most noted directors in Japan. He is the head of the Japanese Film Directors’ Association.

LEE Sang-il
Born in 1974, in Niigata province as a third generation Korean-Japanese, Lee Sang-il graduated from Kanagawa University and then entered the Japan Academy of Moving Images. His graduation film, [Blue Chong] won 4 awards including the Grand Prix at the 2000 PIA Film Festival Awards, and was subsequently officially invited to numerous international film festivals. [69] is his second feature.
