This is the first animation produced in the Philippines. The backdrop is the Philippines during the period of tribal nations in the 13th century. Even though the influence of Disney animation is everpresent, such as in the characters’ appearance, use of talkative animal sidekick characters, and singing scenes in the leading character’s monologue, this animation proves that today’s animation technology in the Philippines is comparative to Disney’s. The true meaning of Urduja is that this animation showed the potential of the Filipino animation industry as it enters into the global market. (Mina OAK)
