Targeting the global market, the Indian animation industry is constructing a brand of ‘Indian animation’ by adopting various subjects from India’s historical, religious, and cultural traditions. Return of Hanuman begins with a battle between evil and the god of ancient Indian legend. This animation allows us easy access to India’s religion and culture in its adaptation of various Indian gods as animated characters. (Mina OAK)

Anurag KASHYAP

Originally from Uttar Pradesh, Delhi Anurag Kashyap now lives in Mumbai where he works as a screenwriter, both for himself and other filmmakers. He made his feature debut in 1999 with Paanch, which went on to achieve critical success. [Black Friday], his most recent film, was selected for competition at the Locarno International Film Festival in 2004. He is currently in development on his next film, [Gulal], to begin shooting in October 2004.
