Program Note

13-year-old Andrei lives in the slum outskirt of Bucharest. Fell in love with newcomer prostitute Marilena at first sight, Andrei now only shoot for driving trolley bus to get her heart. Cristian Nemescu died in car accident at his age of twenty seven, while he was working on postproduction of his debut feature California Dreaming, which won Un Certain Regards Prize at the 60th Cannes Film Festival. Marilena from P7 delivers the fragility of the painful emotion captured us when we were young and in love. (Young-in LEE)

Cristian Nemescu

Cristian Nemescu was born in Bucharest, Romania, and studied at the Academy of Theater and Film. Nemescu was killed in a car accident in 2006 while in post-production on his debut feature. His films include [In Apartment Buildings People Are Crazy About Music] (2000), [Mecano], [Mihai and Cristina] (both 2001), [C Block Story] (2003), and [California Dreamin’ (Endless)] (2006), which was posthumously award Cannes’ Un Certain Regard prize.
