Program Note
Conductor Simon Rattle and the Berliner Philharmoniker are the subjects of this documentary about the quest for musical harmony and perfection. The famed orchestra’s tour of Asia is chronicled in a film that brings vivid life to the clash between the steadiness of artistic tradition and speed of modern Asia. Reconciling the schism between self and group, the respected but enigmatic orchestra has allowed unprecedented access to its inner workings and a peek at the routine stresses and rewards of that come with a position within it.
