Based on several true stories set in Vienna, Kurdistan, and Turkey, For a Moment, Freedom hinges on the simple yet sometimes nightmarish trials of a group of refugees trying to reach what amounts to a holy land: Liberty. In one episode two men attempt to bring two young cousins from Iran to Turkey so that they can be reunited with their family in Austria. Director Arash T. Riahi also weaves a tale involving a Persian teacher and a youthful Kurd fighting their circumstances with their wit. The common link among these characters is the penchant for dreaming of a better life-for a moment of freedom-and having the courage to pursue it in the face of a harsh reality that often does not allow for any of them to come true.
