Program Note
Trudi learns her husband Rudi is terminally ill and decides not to tell him. Instead she convinces him to visit their children in Berlin. Too busy to deal with aged parents, they journey to the Baltic where Trudi unexpectedly dies. Distraught and with no guiding force, Rudi heads to Tokyo. Dorrie’s latest is a love letter to marital devotion, in which a widower reaches an understanding of his late wife and of himself after a physical journey. Sensitive and insightful, the film has Rudi gently wending his way to a much sought after peace. Says Dorrie, “Rudi finds Trudi by starting this inner dialogue with her, a dialog that is almost more intense than the dialog he used to have with her before she passed away. He rediscovers something that they once shared, an inner dialog that only people who have lived together for a long time can have.”
