Without marginalizing its lasting impact, Juliette Garcias explores the difficult subject of incest. A woman in Burgundy is looking for her lover. When she, and we, finally meets him, we realize he is also her father. This so-called relationship is rife with contradictory issues and perverse ambiguities, which Garcias handles with care. “Sometimes [these issues] are confused and ambivalent” Because then [they are] based on a lie of love. This lie is always difficult and painful to cast doubt on since it is expressed by the person whose unique love is supposed to protect us, to help us to develop. So, why not believe in it? How can you not believe in it? Why not decide to give meaning to this initial lie of love? Get something out of it, arm oneself with it? And then, not define oneself as a sexually destroyed, defiled object, but as a lovingly desired subject?
