Program Note
After watching the film, a very close friend sent me an email in which she said: “Like an old folktale, your film shows us the locus from which desire is born, the renewal of the species, and makes the incontrovertible assertion that love has always been and will remain forever, beyond all eclipses, ruptures and disappearances.” -Philippe Grandrieux Alexi lives in an isolated house near a lake; all around him is a countryside covered in snow and dense forest. He is woodcutter, and an epileptic that has had nature seep beneath his skin. He understands it like no one else. Living with him is his blind mother, father, brother, and sister-Hegethat he adores. One day, a stranger, Jurgen, walks into their lives, bringing tragedy with him.
