Richie is an introverted guy. He works at a bar cleaning toilet and has no friends. His life is going nowhere and he has decided he has had enough with life. He is attempting to end it all, but as he slit his wrists and waits for death to come in his bathtub, he gets a desperate phone call from his estranged sister who has to spend the night in jail. She asks him to pick up her daughter from school. Richie reluctantly cancels his dark plans and goes to pick up his precocious niece and escorts her home. And their emotional 24-hour journey begins. Shawn Christensen’s first feature, Before I Disappear was premiered at this year’s SXSW and won the audience award for Best Narrative Feature. This funny yet heartfelt American independent film is based on the director’s 2013 Academy Award winning short film Curfew(2011).
